Newport 18 January 1781
M. le Comte de Rochambeau, does not
Sir, yet have the least news
of the American Army which begins
to become disquieting. I cannot know
my march before he has received it,
but according to all appearances I will not
be long absent from Lebanon.
If an American named
Capt. Robert comes who is addressed to me by Mr.
de [la Fayette], I will be very obliged
to you to receive him well and to treat him well.
You know, Sir, all my
sincere attachment for you.
D. Lauzun.
